A Little Sad Rip Tom Snyder

Today the world lost a great broadcaster! Though I am no longer in the broadcasting business I still love it with all heart. That is why I feel at a lost when one of the great broadcasting folks pass away.

Tom Snyder was one of the best. He was the former host of NBC's "Tomorrow" show (I was too young to know of it) and CBS' "The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder". He passed away on Sunday evening at his home in San Francisco.

I was working at a radio station (WKSK) in my neighboring county when I first learned of Tom. My shift ended at 9pm and I would race home (30 to 45 mins away depending on traffic) to catch his show. This was in 1995, long before DVR and TIVO, so missing a show was a big deal to me. His style was "a quirky on-air presence -- including frequent digressions about his personal life and the habit of laughing gustily at his own jokes shared with an unseen crew -- made him as much the center of attention as his interview subjects" according to Associated Press.

I loved his catch phrase "Fire up a colortini, sit back, relax and watch the pictures, now, as they fly through the air." There is no way that I could even start to tell you about the man if you never seen his show but in my own little way I will pay tribute to him here.
